Oats is the super food grain for PCOS. Its rich in fibre and keep you full for longer & helps to prevent sharp rises in blood sugar and insulin levels after eating a meal, thus reducing your cravings.
Lets not forget that Oats are a great source of manganese, phosphorous, Vitamin B. It contains beta glucan as soluble fibre which can bind with cholesterol-rich bile acids in the intestine & transport them through the digestive tract and eventually out of the body. Oats promote healthy gut bacteria and works great for bowel regularity and helps to prevent constipation. So big thumbs up for Oats in your PCOS Diet.
Now oats come in different varieties – the more processed the oats are, the higher they increase in their glycemic index. Steel cut oats or Rolled oats are great to use, steel cuts oats are required to be soaked and cooked for a longer time. For this recipe I have taken rolled oats which do not require any prior soaking.
Important to note that Oats in their pure form are Gluten Free, but there is a high chance they could include gluten if processed in the same environment as other gluten laden grains such as wheat etc. So whenever you buy oats, make sure they are gluten free oats for your hormone friendly meals!.
-1/ cup rolled gluten free Oats.
-1 cup Dairy Free milk. I have used homemade Almond Milk
-1 teaspoon Maca Root Powder
-1 teaspoon Ashwagandha Powder
-1/4 spoon cinnamon powder
– Sliced Bananas
-Dried Cranberries.You can use frozen berries too
– Pumpkin and Flax Seeds. (As per Seed cycling)
– Hemp seeds (Optional)
– An empty clear Jar or bowl
-Before going to bed, In the empty Jar add dairy free milk and oats for soaking overnight. If you want to make this as a snack sometime in the evening, soaking them for 3-4 hours works well too!
– In the morning once you are ready for breakfast. Take out the Jar from the fridge and add all the rest of the ingredients.
– Mix well and Enjoy!
-You can play around with your ingredients as per your choice. Other great fruits that work well are Apples, peaches, kiwi, cherries.
– This is a great meal for Daily corporate hustlers or college goers. You can put the lid on the jar and have it in transit. This way you will never miss your breakfast!
